Linea Research, UK—April 2019… Linea Research, the UK’s leading amplifier manufacturer, has announced the addition of 8 channel 20kW models to their successful M and C series of networked DSP amplifiers. Optimised to deliver 2500W per channel into 4 ohms with all 8 channels driven simultaneously the new touring focused 48M20 and installation targeted 88C20 amplifiers offer truly class leading performance while maintaining the outstanding audio performance which defines the brand.
“Our existing amplifiers models delivered their highest power output into 2 ohms” explains Peter Collins, sales manager at Linea Research, continuing “but of course 2 ohms isn’t always ideal and many of our users prefer to load their amps at 4 ohms. In developing these new models we’ve been able to effectively double our output and power density into 4 ohms giving our customers exactly what they’ve been asking for.”
Both M and C series versions offer networked control, 96kHz DSP signal processing and user FIR filters on every output along with analog and AES3 inputs as standard and a Dante™/AES67 option. With 4 inputs, 8 outputs, and full front panel control the 48M20 is aimed at portable and touring users while the 8 input 8 output 88C20 provides all the same DSP and control features but is finished with a blank front panel for tamperproof operation.
“Flexibility is key with all our products and these are no different,” concludes Collins. ”In one 2u 8 channel amplifier we can now offer anything from a bridged pair giving 5kW @ 8ohms, single channels of 2500W @ 4ohms, and even drive 2500W into a 100v line. Our new amplifiers will be shipping this month.
Also announced is the release of an update to their much acclaimed ASC48 DSP System Controller with the addition of Dante outputs and user accessible FIR functionality.
Shipping now all ASC48 processors now come with FIR filters on every output allowing the user to import files with up to 384 taps at 48kHz or 768 at 96kHz. Fully compatible with FIR design software like Eclipse Audio’s FIR Designer this new functionality in ASC48 matches that already in Linea Research’s M and C series of networked DSP amplifiers where many users and loudspeaker manufacturers have already been developing settings.
Dante equipped versions of the ASC48 receive an additional upgrade and can now output Dante back onto the network as well as receiving it. This new functionality allows the ASC48 system controller to pick from almost any part of the signal chain, the physical input, pre or post input processing, or the final processed output, and deliver this signal back onto the Dante network.
“In combination with the existing analog and AES inputs this new Dante output capability turns the ASC48 into a 12x4x16 routing matrix, including the distribution of post DSP processed signals back onto the network” explains Davey Smalley, director of Linea Research. “These new additions of FIR processing and enhanced Dante flexibility are all the result of feedback from our customers coupled with our drive to continually improve our products.”
